Barclays Summer Analyst in Whippany - Living Arrangements

Hello guys,

Currently a junior at a non-target and landed a summer analyst position at the Barclays Whippany campus (I'm very thankful). My question for prior interns with experience with this specific branch: What did you do for housing and what that process like? I'm just preparing in case of the summer being in-person.

Thanks.

Barclay's has a campus in Whippany NJ?  I'll be damned. That's news to me and I used to work just on the other side of the airport from it.  I even did repairs on the building on the other side of Jefferson Rd. from it.

My parents may be willing to rent out my childhood bedroom. I'll apologize in advance for the guns, trains, and sailboats on the walls.  You will need to take your shoes off before entering the house though.

In all seriousness, having no clue about the branch, but knowing the area well: You're in the burbs, hardcore. You need a car, full stop. Traffic around there is also a mess. My family regularly goes shopping on Rt. 10, and it's gotten the nickname "Doing the Route 10 crawl." 80 going up the hill west of 287 and 287 north into 80 are also messes.  Morristown (not Morris Twp. or Morris Plains) may be your best option for a rental since it's a short commute, and can let you get into the city if things open up. (just make sure not to miss that 1:45 AM last train-Overnighting in NYP until the 5AM is NOT fun)  Other options are likely Denville or Dover, but then you're going with traffic on your daily commute.

EDIT: I don't know many places nearby that are money for food, but Esposito's on Ridgedale just north of 10 is great. Slightly further afield Sorrento's bakery on Eagle Rock makes some really good stuff too.

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.
