What are some other restaraunt/bars/clubs you advise going to?
I'v eheard a lot about Mr. Purple, Fiddle sticks although usually as jokes.

What are you looking to do? How much are you willing to spend? What food do you like and how “upscale” do you want it to be?
And if by “Cips” you mean Cipriani, it is fine, but I wouldn’t waste one of my dinners there.
Yeah Cipriani Doce on 42nd, couldn't get a rex downtown. Where upscale would you go for dinner?

I wouldn’t call Cipriani upscale relative to “fine dining” in nyc, and would try to visit something more authentic to nyc (vs cipriani that has locations in Vegas, Miami, and bunch of other places around the world).
If you want very good Italian I would try Marea or Ai Fiori. If you want a trendier Italian go with Babbo or Charlie Bird (can always try Carbone’s if you can get in). For sushi I would try Nakazawa, Noz, or Yasuda. If you want “trendy fancy” Joel Robuchon or The Modern. And if you really want to go all out a few favorites of mine are Jungsik, Atera, chefs table at Brooklyn fare, or Le Bernardin.

Are you on a corporate account with clients or paying your own way? The neat thing about NYC is that ANYTHING is in game. Georgian? (country, not state) Mongolian? Lao? if you ain't swiping the corporate card dare to be different and go off the beaten path. A clip from Bourdain is what launched xi'an famous foods. Dad thought sending his kid to college would make him mildly successful. Dad's cooking got them their own mini-mcdonald's.
Going for the more ethnic options is amazing in a place like NYC because quality is usually top-notch, and they're oftentimes at an amazing price point. Great cheap ethnic eats is what I live for.

Mr. Purple is wonderful if you like 18 year old undergrads and a 30+ minute line. Honestly I'd ditch Cipriani's too and go for some of the recs on here or try to hit some of the les expensive 1 Michelin stars. That place is a tourist nightmare and the food is nothing great. It's best known as a nice venue for large corporate events, not an incredible meal in NYC.
Also what would be a good restaurant to go to like a steakhouse. Looking to take my parents to an appreciation dinner this summer because they contributed to where I’ve been able to get to.
