BBA major decision
Hi, I am a first time poster and a little green to the world of finance so please excuse any blatant ignorance on my part. I am currently a sophmore at a southern regional semi-target (At most). I am determined to pursue a career in investment banking or Asset Management. I have some prior internship experience but it is mainly irrelevant( application testing, IT department at University). I am currently planning on going for a BBA in finance, although I am considering dual concentration in accounting and finance. How valuable would the addition of the accounting major be in the pursuit of a career in investment banking or asset management? I see it as a tool to help me widen my horizons to corporate fldps (Is this the case? Or could i still be a competitive candidate with just a BBA in finance).
I'm 99% sure I know which school you go to and according to my good buddy who goes there as long as you take financial accounting and corporate finance you'll be in good shape for interview questions. He told me most of his friends either double concentrate or complete a second major in the college. I personally don't think it'll help differentiate for IB/IM recruiting. However, once at your internship an accounting background will help immensely.
TL/DR: It'll be more helpful on the job and probably won't affect IB/IM recruiting. It definitely won't hurt.
Thanks for your feedback. Would u mind PMing me the school you think I go. Yeah I figured that the course work itself could be useful on the job.
