Berkshire Hathaway Jobs
So ive never seen anyone Ever POST ANYthing about berkshire hathaway hiring... do they mainl hire through each one of the seperate businesses as opposed to a corporate headquarters/program and mainly through schools like the University of Nebraska and then promote upwards? Just curious if anyone has any insight at all on this, and yes go fuck yourself if you tell me to go to the berkshire hathaway site and click careers ;>
Would suprise me when they have more than 100 employees. Its just a holding company and they do not hire on colleges. They hire directly from other companies.
Interesting question: Does Warren Buffett offer scholarships ?
2 paths:
1) Via one of their subsidiary companies: Net Jets, BNI, Geico, etc.
2) Become a super-star at value investing
Hard path
Not really structured from what I've heard. Most of the guys there are in their mid to late 30s + who worked in portfolio companies and are really good at what they do.
^that is for an investing role...
there are a shit role of supporting roles marketing, accounting, finance there with younger age groups.
Well it's prob Todd Combs following buffet up, a hf-manager.
Todd isn't going to become the operational executive of Berkshire. The investment pot will get split up under a multi-manager arrangement.
The COO spot will go to one of the operating company CEOs.
What do you mean the investment side will get split up under a multi manager arrangement? Isn’t it basically just Todd and Ted?
Corp Dev at Berkshire Hathaway - Brilliant acquisitions (Originally Posted: 11/04/2013)
Berkshire Hathaway often makes brilliant acquisitions. So I suppose they must have an excellent corp. dev. department. Am I right? How can one get to work there?
Berkshire Hathaway is basically a VERY small team of investment professionals including Buffett, Munger, Combs, etc. Corp Dev refers to internal m&a for companies, not multi-billion dollar investment transactions, which is the level of investment Berkshire is responsible for.
There are pretty good opportunities at Berkshire portfolio companies. For example, you could always work in corp dev at Geico or at MidAmerican Energy, which are both Berkshire companies. This is basically like working at any large company's corp dev.
But getting to work in corp dev at Berkshire directly is impossible since it does not exist, and getting to be an investment professional at Berkshire is effectively impossible since there are so few positions.

BH has like 20 employees. They don't have a corpdev department AFAIK, I'm pretty sure they have guys that make calls and that's it.
Berkshire Hathaway - Anyone working at time firm? (Originally Posted: 11/03/2010)
I've never heard of anyone working at this firm in an junior associate/business development role -- do they hire people from banking/consulting to do corporate strategy work?
no.
berkshire hathaway only has like 20 employees.
I saw this analyst interview on cnbc japan with a guy at BH, and heard that the number was more like 10~15. Good luck.
If you're talking about the Oracle of Omaha's firm, they have no analyst/associate/anything like that of a pe or hedge fund situation.
He's got some accountants, a bond trader, a few secretaries and a handful of very senior financial people - but all the investing is done by him essentially, and now his new protege Todd Combs.
They do hire people on the basis of their talent and their need for it -- if you read about Todd Combs background, it will totally begin to make sense whey they hired a guy like him and will continue to do so as Mr. Buffett gets older
That's because no one wants to work out in Nebraska. If you think Stamford had a bad dating scene, just wait until the only girls for miles are farmers.....
