Best and worst KickStarter campaigns you've seen?
Believe the hype they say, believe the hype. Well, that's what people did back in the day for a cooler that was just a little bit cooler than the rest called Coolest.

This little cooler was so cool in fact that it brought in $13mil pledges with a goal of $50k! Sounds good right? Well...

$450-500 cooler that is bulky and poorly built is certainly not the Coolest widget around. Swipe left, try again.
Exploding Kittens (card game) by comparison brought in about $8mil in pledges:

Kittens is actually doing quite well:

That represents two of many stories to be told on the Win and Fail KickStarter campaigns.
**What are some of the more memorable KickStarter campaigns you've seen? **
Has there been anything, aside from silly card games, that's taken off and spun into real profitable businesses from Kick Starter?
I'm still relatively new to the crowd venture capital sourcing space.

I think Peter Thiel later invested in this too
Thiel is smart but his recent investments is questionable at best.
You're that pessimistic about Sprayable?
Can't beat the guy who raised 55k for potato salad https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/zackdangerbrown/potato-salad
I have high hopes for Super Troopers 2, which raised money on Indiegogo.
"The $2,000,000 funding goal was reached just 26 hours after the window opened but contributions continued to be added in force. Large ticket perks were offered as incentives to get this funding including tickets to a real beerfest in Chicago, a producer title in the credits ($10,000), a "director" listing ($12,500), a speaking actor role ($10,000), a trip to the ballpark with the five main actors ($15,000), and even the patrol car that will be used in the filming of the movie ($35,000) were all sold out within 12 hours of funding. This project is also, as of March 2016, #27 on the list of highest funded crowdfunding projects and is the #5 largest successfully-completed Indiegogo project; its campaign was completed on April 24.9 The campaign raised $4.4 million for the film, and Fox Searchlight Pictures will release the film."
Why did this even need to be crowdfunded? Surely the studio heads aren't complete morons, are they?
Probably didn't, seemed like they were taking advantage of a trend. Still thought it was hilarious you could get director credits and stuff like that.
What about FidgetCube? I saw it just before Christmas, never saw where it went
Probably died a horrible death in the North Pole.
It was actually stolen and implemented by this copycat before the initial release. The creators had problems with the Chinese manufacturers while the charlatin(who has experience ripping off popular indiegogo campaigns) got it out and placed it on Amazon weeks before the product was even made. In like the span of 48 hours he made over 350k.
There is one company that horded a ton of cash and clout selling China made office chairs as a "new" invention. It worked! Hahaha
I found the following pretty interesting when I first came across it on Kickstarter.

Ongoing? Ubeam is the worst kickstarter in history. It's a company that raised over 10 million on promising wireless ULTRASOUND charging. Ultrasonic sound waves do not hold a lot of energy, as it drops with a squared. Somehow they managed to get a lot of investors on bullshitting alone. Even with automatic, directional antennas, you can not find a efficient way to charge thing with ultrasound. They fell for the "We need a strong female entrepreneur like Elizabeth Holmes figure!
