Best piece of classical you've ever heard?
I dont know about you guys but I occasionally like to listen to some classical, minimalist music to calm me.
The best one in recent times has been this (according to me anyway):

That's not classical music.
i don't get into classical at all, but i know a few...
starting at 16:55 of beethoven's 5th is epic
My all time favorite.
immortal performance, listen to all the parts
bach's ciaccona
Chopin's Marche Funèbre. The piece is so saddening, maddening, relieving, empowering and elegant.
the entire sonata is pretty excellent--the movement after where its basically ghosts sweeping through the graveyard is fantastic
I find it fascinating that his glory in the romantic era was because he did not glorify romance. All his work is much more complicated than his peers.
haha as a piano player it's almost impossible not to like his work...even the lackluster orchestration of his piano concertos are completely outdone by the piano part.
Argerich's live performance of Rachmaninov's 3rd piano concerto is also an all-time favorite
mozart's allegro moderato - symphony 29. I heard a rendition at a symphony in Boston and haven't been the same since. Who knew how good classical music can be. I think everybody should have some classical stuff on their mp3 player
Swagon go away. Shit's getting old.
for those of u unfamiliar with the melodica, its essentially just a harmonica with a keyboard. wen played correctly, it can create some of the most relaxing music ive ever heard. perfect example:
You guys know classical music was all created in the classical period, from 1750-1830, right? So really, only coca cola and synthetic's pieces qualify. I like rachmaninoff though... lots more of a classical influence here than anything else.
My favorites right now: * Bach guitar suites, just beautiful * Handel. All of it. Amazing stuff * Final Fantasy IX soundtrack. I don't play the games, but the music is WOW GOOD
i always figured NWA and afrika bambaattaa were classical.
Fantasie by Chopin. Li Yundi does it best.
Classical music is emotional music. Berlioz symphony fantastic is amazing.
Ant, what music do you know that isnt emotional? I can only really think of one piece, and thats Reich's "clapping music."
There is music and then there is MUSIC. I enjoy modern music, but classical is much deeper. Wagner is amazing, as well as Beethoven, etc. Classical is like art, you appreciate it the more you understand about it.
You can't not like this.
Antonin Dvorak's 9th Symphony (also called the New World Symphony):
The second movement is absolutely beautiful... (Dvorak's a bit late to be "classical," but w/e...)
Erik Alfred Leslie Satie - Gymn
Handel's Messiah
Ludovico Einaudi - Nuvole Bianche
Not an obscure piece but I've always thought Claude Debussy's Claire de Lune is amazing.
Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata and Godfather Waltz by Nino Rota.
Glad to see this thread return.
