Best Summer College Job to Learn Social Skills
So for context, I'm extremely introverted but was able to secure an IB internship for next summer. I've kinda missed out on a lot of college social stuff and life milestones. I don't really have a solid friend group nor have ever been with a girl (don't roast me lmao).
I've realized that a lot of this is due to me being pretty socially anxious and unwilling to get out of my comfort zone, so it's kind of a miracle that I was able to land a job in an industry so networking-based. Regardless, I don't like the way I'm currently living my life and am worried that I'm wasting my youth away for no reason.
This summer, I don't really have anything going on aside doing a few project ideas with some people I know and taking the gym much more seriously. I'm going to have a lot of free time, so I figured it would be beneficial for both my career and overall personal growth if I were to get some direct exposure to socialization, especially after being somewhat shut in for majority of my college experience.
What do you guys recommend? And I'd also love to hear if anyone had a similar experience and were able to turn it around.
Door-to-door Sales? Waiter at a restuarant?
Social skills like anything are something that you can work on and become better with enough reps. Just need to find something with high volume + deeper (than usual) convos.
Some jobs are literally just "Hi" and "Have a good day". No scope for conversations beyond face value
BJJ/Muay Thai will increase your confidence, enhancing your social skills.
Second this. Don’t become cringe though. Lots of real weird dudes run in those circles.
Caddying is also pretty solid.
yes getting choked out and/or kicked/punched in the face really does put things into perspective. Helped me a lot
and it can help you make some good friends, punching each other in the face does help build deeper than normal bonds between people
Bartending did the trick for me
Maybe volunteer work with elderly people/homeless people?
Take acting classes, improv especially. Also dance lessons.
You’ll be forced to live your life in the real world, not the inner world inside your head.
It will change your life. Girls will find you attractive, especially if you move well on the dance floor because it suggests you’re also good in bed.
Acting class will sensitive you to how you appear to others and how to modify your presentation of self to fit the changing circumstances of your life. Behave his way for mom and dad, this way for your boss and this way for that girl over there.
