Best Tier 2 & 3 Cities??

NYC, SF, & CHI are the most common cities for high paying IB & PE jobs, but what are the best Tier 2 & 3 cities that have lower COL and a good lifestyle?

Charlotte, Houston and Miami have been tossed around, but I want to hear people's perspectives on what cities offer a good mix of COL, Weather, Lifestyle and more.

I have interest in working in PE or PC in the long term, so that is another consideration for picking a city.

Appreciate any and all thoughts!

Honestly, Detroit is lit AF these days. Tons of up and coming real estate developers building up a ton of awesome nightlife/entertainment/arts hot spots within pockets of the city that used to be run down. In addition to a healthy mix of regional boutique IB or Management Consulting shops that you find in any top tier city, Detroit has also enticed more and more of the major NYC-based banks to open up regional offices here. The whispers on the street is that Piper Jaffray is also considering moving their HQ over here. In addition to that you've got Quicken Loan, GM, Ford, Cadillac, Ally Financial, ServiceNow, General Dynamics, etc. all with huge offices in Detroit.

TBH I put Detroit up there with Boston, Chicago & DC.

Straight up nonsense dude. On par with Boston, Chicago, and DC? Assume this is a joke like the majority of your other comments.

I mean maybe not Chicago.

Boston & DC 100% though. There isn't a single skyscraper in DC bruh. It's the seat of government, not Wall Street. As for Boston, just because they have a high-concentration of "sexy" industry there (ie, Biotech, Technology, Shipbuilding) doesn't mean there's more of it or that it is of higher quality than the Industrials, Automotive, Real Estate, Engineering & Manufacturing industriousness of Detroit.

If you’re going to troll, at least take a stance that passes the most basic sniff test. Google population trends on Detroit, DC and Boston. Only one is in steady decline. Anyone want to guess which one? Might be good for you to get out of the cold up there in (almost) Canada… seems to be causing you to have freezing cold takes.

I'd consider Austin and Dallas if you're fine with the weather and politics. Denver sounds appealing to me personally because a lot of my friends have been flocking to Colorado. Raleigh-Durham would be a good option as far as Tier 3.5/Tier 4 cities go, though idk if there's much in terms of PE there -- I'm guessing Duke University has a fund?
