Best Travel Hacks/Tips
I have never really been a big traveler, but I am starting to get into it more. I am curious if you all have any good travel hacks to share. I think I am going to get a new card to really start accruing travel rewards points so hopefully we can start raking in some good deals.
My top:
1) Global Entry/TSA Precheck is absolutely essential if you'll be traveling more than a couple of times a year
2) Luggage with high quality wheels. I don't care about material or name brand, but the better the wheels, the better the experience. TravelPro Platinum has become my go-to, their wheels are like butter
3) I much prefer booking through my card than using the actual hotel websites because the points, to me, are waaaay more valuable than status. Status gets me a higher room and maybe a suite, maybe it gets me lounge access. The right card gives me like 15% back when I book a hotel, which is way more valuable to me than the aforementioned perks. Would love to refer you to my Chase card, I've absolutely loved using it. Along with this, I generally avoid chain-branded cards because I don't think the incremental points are worth it
4) Also love my Nomatic travel bag. It's BUILT for travel, and again, I'm not much for brand name, I'm for functionality, and Nomatic is certainly a 9.5/10.
Oh sweet thank you so much! Talk about a WSO team player! Are you gonna respond with your Chase card number and expiration on here or Dm me with it?
For sure.

nailed it. a couple of things I'll add
kindheartedconsultant pretty much encompassed everything I'd initially add, some great tips above.
I want to expand on his third point regarding booking - if your firm allows it, always expense travel and don't use any kind of direct corporate account or provided card. I'll assume that your credit limit lets you book whatever you want, so it's always better to reimburse and collect your own points rather than letting the company handle everything. I don't know the exact number, but I'm just shy of a million SkyMiles at this point, the majority of that coming through expensing corporate travel. If I used the offered company card, I'd maybe have 1/8 of that. Pair this with whatever ratio your CC issuer offers (either Chase or Amex, make sure you have at least one), you have thousands of free dollars and a ton of perks that cost you nothing besides maybe a cardholder annual fee.
Oh yeah - definitely a +1 for a robust travel bag. If you do it the right way, can kind of be a 'buy-once-cry-once' situation. Think about the importance of the items in your bag, be they monetary, sentimental, or anything else - definitely worth it to shell out a couple of hundred extra for the thing responsible to ensure that they arrive to your destination safely. No-brainer!
Always pack an "oh shit" bag wherever you go. You may never need it, but when you do you'll be glad to have it. Just a small pack of cold medicine, ibuprofen, Pepto Bismol pills, and some cash have saved my ass more than a few times.
