California Signs Dream Act

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970203…

That's right boys and girls. American's are unemployed. California is writing IOU's. All good. Let's take American tax dollars and spend them on illegal immigrants.

Frankly, I support this. Anything that pushed California into the abyss faster is a good thing. One can only hope that this causes more jobs to leave California and eventually the entire tax paying base will leave. Some places are too fucked up to bother saving.

Gotta love a broke as state, looking to increase revenue from hard working Americans, all the while funding this pork barrel bullshit. Nothing like screwing over actual Americans for the benefit of criminals.

God bless Alabama and their stance against this bullshit. If you want to become an American, go through the same process everyone else does. Geographic proximity does not excuse you from going through the same process everyone else did.

Another nail in the coffin of what used to be a great nation. So sad.

Yes, those illegal immigrants will take their now affordable college education and use it to fuck up California's economy.

The Federal DREAM act would, without a doubt, reduce the deficit and have a positive long term economic impact.

To Whom it may concern:

I don't know who the fuck you are but I'll pay for you to come in my house.

Signed, California

PS: I like all this 'dream' and 'positive long-term' talk. Good words to hide what's really going on.

Yup, these economists are clearly just anti-government conspirators who hate America and love illegals. Hell, those sons of bitches are probably Mexican illegals themselves.

I honestly can't get too upset about the DREAM act. The state needs fiscal restraint badly, but the DREAM act actually seems like a decent investment. At least this act legalizes those aliens most likely to be productive. Wouldn't mind the act only applying to STEM fields, but I am generally sick of subsidizing communications degrees.

Also, I don't really see what a kid could do about his immigration situation. Is he supposed to stay behind in Mexico while his parents sneak across the border?

CA needs to cut its prison populations and get the union situation under control. Of course, Brown won't do anything about that...he legalized public unions in the first place.

If we didn't have welfare, SS, and now inching closer to socialized healthcare I would have no problem with open immigration. But the fact that we have things that taxpayers pay for, and hey shouldn't be given away. This is a country not a charity. The funny thing is that if I wanted to go to school in California I'd pay full tuition, but if I snuck in a few years back with my parents I'd be fine. :/

Reality hits you hard, bro...

Yes, because American tax dollars should go to educate people who are here ILLEGALLY.

FYI, go and try and get a job when you are an illegal college grad. This isn't picking crops.

"Oh hey, KPMG, yeah, I have an accounting degree, but my citizenship is fucked up because I am technically an illegal immigrant, all cool right?"

Whatever. How about spending American tax dollars on actual Americans. I mean I didn't realize that US tax dollars are now supposed to support Mexican citizens.

ANT,

I would think that if you are going to be trashing a bill like this you should at least read a summary of the bill and understand it. If you don't actually understand the bill then you look like a fool. I think you missed this part:

"3. If undocumented, the filing of an affidavit with the college or university stating that they have applied for a lawful immigration status or will apply as soon as they are eligible to do so."

Of you can look at the bill itself:

"(4) In the case of a person without lawful immigration status, the filing of an affidavit with the institution of higher education stating that the student has filed an application to legalize his or her immigration status, or will file an application as soon as he or she is eligible to do so."

Although this does not guarantee that the students will be legal, it does ensure that they are headed in that direction.

A few other points:

"She said the Dream Act would not affect U.S. citizens or legal residents receiving funds from the state's biggest pot of college financial aid, the $1.3-billion Cal-Grant entitlement program. Those grants are unlimited and given to everyone who meets the academic and low-income requirements, she said." -from la times - the executive director of the calif. student aid commission

additionally:

"The $127-million fund for Cal-Grant competitive awards, which are limited, will almost certainly not be available to illegal immigrants. That's because the bill prohibits undocumented students from receiving those grants before eligible U.S. citizens and legal residents are served" - also from la times

"A Senate committee analysis estimated the annual added cost to the Cal-Grant program at $13 million. "

So it will add 1% to the cost of the Cal-Grant program. A marginal cost that has the potential to reap major benefits to the state and the country as a whole. Citizens and legal residents are already paying for the educational costs of illegal immigrants from K-12 (public schools), this simply gives the top performing illegals the opportunity to succeed and give back to the country. Most (if not all) of these students did not have a choice, and to penalize them for a decision they did not make seems out of place. Some don't even know they are illegal until they are in high school and filling out forms for college, etc.

Great athletes are given legal status quickly in order to help out a baseball team, basketball team, etc. Top performing employees are given a fast track to legal status in the US (working visas, etc). Why can't we help out students that are top performing? It is almost the same as if they applied from Mexico to study at a California university, they just receive a tiny bit of money (and if you look at the numbers it is tiny).

So let me get this right? If I file a piece of paper with the college stating that I will seek residency or proper immigration status as soon as possible that makes it all ok?

This is a bullshit part of the document to give people plausible deniability. Please show me where in the Bill does it state that the college has to follow up with this pledge to seek proper documentation within a year or two and that if there is not proof of this all funds will be canceled and demanded back.

Yeah dude, I read the bill. Utter bullshit. Every other citizen of the world has to go through extensive documentation and multiple processes to get into this country and enjoy the privilege of studying and being in America. I suppose because some people are geographically blessed that they can just walk over they now have the God given right to not only ignore the laws of this great nation, but to expect its tax payers to foot the bill for them.

http://www.4icu.org/mx/

Please return to your home country and enjoy some of the many fine institutes of higher education there. The US tax payer is not going to foot the bill for someone who cannot respect the basic laws of this land.

I love how you say 1% is nothing because we are already paying for these kids in K-12. You are right. Once we make citizenship documentation a requirement of public schooling we can lower costs once again.

Undocumented = Not able to enjoy the benefits of America

OMG, if we don't have low cost slave labor how will our dishes get washed or our strawberries get pick??!!

With fucking machines that would cost slightly more.

I am sure the marginal increase in a hotel room or a plate of food will be greatly offset by the cost, in tax payer dollars, in paying for ILLEGAL immigrants.

How people cannot see such a simple thing is only because of two things:

1) You suppose low cost slave labor (common argument)

2) You are not an American, but a supporter of some other home nation

Pick your poison, but everyone else came here legally and went through the process, Mexicans are no different.

Kids whose parents lose their home get penalized. Kids whose parents cannot afford private school get penalized. Kids whose parents illegally come to the US get penalized.

Cry me a river. People make Mexico out to be like Somalia or something. It sucks compared to the USA, but it isn't THAT bad. Go back home, go work in Mexico and go to Mexican schools. Plenty of US jobs coming your way so don't worry.

txjustinill-e-gal. What part of this do liberals not understand?

Shouldn't-be-ill-e-gal-if-you-were-brought-here-as-a-kid-and-you-have-a-college-degree what part of this do you not understand?

If you are not born in the USA you are not a citizen. You can give me all the sob stories you want, but Mexico is a nice country with plenty of good schools. Return home and if you truly feel the desire to be an American, go through the same process every other immigrant goes through.

Children suffer from the mistakes of the parents all the time. Deal with it.

LOL what kind of argument is "life sucks, deal with it" when we're debating policies? A shitty one.

Listen buddy, if you weren't born here and you are here illegally, you are ILLEGAL. You need me to wikipedia you what illegal immigrant means?

Wow, no fucking shit that's what illegal means. If that weren't what illegal meant, we wouldn't need the DREAM act would we? Holy crap I'd trade you for a Mexican any day.

I can take it you're sympathetic to law breakers? How about you start a charity that sends illegals to college. That's right, you're a liberal who talks about this sort of thing but never separates from his/her money without every other fucking tax payer getting raped.

I really don't know what argument to even make. American tax dollars are being used to send illegal immigrants to college. California is broke and the little money they have they are spending on this.

You haven't provide one valid argument on this topic. Your posts center around the concept that it isn't the kids fault. Even if that is true, why should tax dollars be spent on them.

This is why we need a fence and strict immigration rules. People from around the world come to the USA legally, I don't think it is unreasonable to expect our southern neighbors to follow the same rules.

Please put together an intelligent argument other than "we already are paying for illegal immigrant grade school, why not college"

My argument is as follows: spending money on illegal immigrants to go to college encourages job creation and a better Californian work force. If the federal dream act passes, this would be obviously the case (unless you are completely incompetent when it comes to economics). If it does not, I would still argue that illegals with college education can be more productive than illegals without college education.

My argument has always been from the economic standpoint, I never said anything about kid's faults NOR did I say anything about paying for their grade school (uhh reread my posts please, especially the one where I posted economic journal papers).

How about this. Spend the money on LEGAL citizens and deport illegal immigrants (that or make them pay a penalty).

Your entire argument is under the pretense that illegal immigrants HAVE to stay here and have a right to stay here. Once you realize that they are breaking the law and do not have the right to enjoy the benefits and rights that real Americans do, your argument fails.

Nope, my economic argument is not contingent on whether illegals deserve anything or have the right to enjoy any benefits. Show me an economic paper that says the federal DREAM act would be worse for the economy, and my argument would fail.

Yeah that wasn't me.

Let them try and get degrees in sociology and the other social science bullshit. Bachelor of Science's are the new American bubble and they can't quite assimilate unless they are duped just as bad as white folk.

Show you a paper? It was just signed and it is obvious to everyone who doesn't have their head up their ass.

It will do nothing but COST tax payers since they are educating illegal immigrants. These people are here illegally. They cannot get a job, they do not have SSI numbers. Illegal immigrants can work because they are paid cash or will fake SSI numbers. You're not going to be working at General Mills without being a citizen.

Tax payer dollars should not be spent on illegal immigrants. Increase ICE enforcement and deport them.
