Recently I noticed whenever a guy has trouble dating or hooking up, older guys and girls (28+) seem to give advice like "get yourself out there", "have confidence", "be yourself".
To the younger generation who can actually get laid, this sounds like how boomers advice us to buy a house while working part time at 21.
I've met quite a few guys who were fairly good looking and making a lot of money with great personalities who can't get a decent date and don't understand why. I see quite a few comments like this on here as well. Either that or they blame some thing like their height or skin color.
The truth is the golden currency in todays safe and predictable world is social currency. Things such as money, height, good looks or how funny you are hasn't mattered since like 2013.
I have a few friends who are instagram famous or mid level rappers or finance vloggers (average 20k to 100k views on Youtube per video). And most times, when we are talking to girls, they have no idea who the guys are, however once they see the blue verified tag on instagram or twitter it always blows my mind how the dynamic of the conversation changes. The girls start hitting on us. Every single time. A lot of my rapper friends aren't even rich or flashy and I have witnessed girls turning down guys who obviously have more money for them.
I got verified on instagram about a year ago and its so bad I get disheartened that girl next door sweetheart types don't exist anymore.
Regardless of their background, race or upbringing. I have seen rich upper east side girls with horses in Upstate NY and a range rover falling hard for Pete Davidson and Kodak Black looking guys all because they had 20k followers and were verified on instagram. If you spoke to these girls and listened to how they bragged about their boyfriends "fame" you would think they were dating George Clooney.
If you're wondering how this relates to you, if you're in finance and can't get laid, start a YouTube Channel with titles like "Things i didn't know about banking" and grow from there, you're in finance and can afford to pay for ads and a good camera.
It'll get you much further than "being yourself".
It's ok. Let the boys be boys chasing girls. Check the verbiage of the post. It specifically says girls instead of women, which says it all to my old man ears.

The thing is you're actually right. I specifically said girls. I also specifically said getting laid.
And because of that, you definitely deserve respect for the honesty. I respect a player for knowing how to win their game.
No Instagram gang here and my experience has been the opposite of what you describe.
I agree with the general premise of your post. Women are attracted to status. But a social media following is just one form of status.
It’s more important to find *your* thing that makes you “somebody” instead of a “nobody”. I could not score lower on the clout rankings given my complete lack of social media, but I do great with women.
I heard this saying once: “To a debt collector, the whole world is broke”. Basically, you don’t think the girl next door type exists, because you don’t attract that type or you don’t go looking for the type. Similar to how strippers / escorts think all men are trash. Good men aren’t hooking up with strippers and escorts.
