Conversational Networking Tips?

Hey guys

Quick question here, and this could be across any industry - I’ve been hyper focused on networking right now and have been having a lot of good quality calls, but

Only thing though is that I always come prepared with a list of questions - but sometimes the call becomes more of a Q&A situation, usually when I don’t have a lot of sector specific knowledge

It makes it harder to get more granular with them when you don’t have a lot of color on something and don’t know how to ask a great follow up question because of that. Some calls even with just a list of questions go great, while others become kind of flat.

I always try to balance the calls with some personal questions (eg about their background, experience in school, hobbies etc.) which definitely helps.

Is there anything I can do to help make sure these calls go smoother even when I’m not that well versed in a specific sector? Thanks!

Honestly, chatGPT is pretty great for this since it can aggregate research from consulting firms into a cohesive doc and cite sources.

You kind of just want to prep an industry or sector tear sheet about two pages in length and then have open ended questions on the identified trends.

Now, you can't expect to get into a granular conversation over 20-30 minutes, but this typically leaves the door open for the next chat.

I did this a few times as of late and it's worked pretty well. I often filter vague trends or irrelevant sources.

Im too busy enjoying my cup of warm milk to get stuck in the weeds tbh

I've also been really into that - using a local merchant called Local Leche - it's fresh milk from females and my favorite is the colostrum as it has the most nutrients. It kind of tastes like a custard, but is really good for you. It's hard to get and illegal in 22 states, but worth the drive across the border if you can swing it.
