COVID Relocation and Taxes

Do you guys know where do I file taxes if I moved out of NYC due to COVID? If I moved in June and stayed in the state for the rest of the year? Just wondering if I will get the tax return for the NYC tax and pay lower state tax rate

Refer to §132.18(a)) of the NY tax code for specifics.

In summary, if you are working remote out of “convenience” you will be required to pay income taxes even as a nonresident. if you are working remotely out of “necessity,” you will not be subject to NY taxes.

I am in a similar situation and will be attempting to avoid the taxes. This is going to be a huge tax topic this year and NY will likely issue guidance on the subject. NJ has already issued guidance https://taxfoundation.org/new-jersey-waives-telework-nexus-covid-19-cri…
