-Put initial Covid Patients in nursing homes, causing hundreds of elderly deaths

-Didn't start using social distancing protocols until 1 week after Trump's order

I wouldn't be too hard on him considering to this day there's a lot of uncertainty over which measures are actually helpful.

Then again, the libs at a certain point wanted to replace Biden with him and the whole state is a disaster. Comedy.

Never discuss with idiots, first they drag you at their level, then they beat you with experience.

There's no solution to the homeless problem that SF voters will actually entertain at this point.

Now that several tech companies will move out of SF and the city itself will have its tax revenue cut in half through payroll tax cuts, sales tax cuts, etc., they will have to cut homeless spending and naturally take on a hostile approach to the leeching homeless industrial complex. Give is 2-3 years of pain and you'll see a very different stance towards homeless in SF once the city has no money.

he has actually done a good job but he was shocked that a homeless person was on the subway sleeping at 1am. given his background and the fact he knows shelters are closed, I’m beyond shocked how disconnected his intuition was.

on another note, if people wanna stay home and be quarantined, they should be allowed to. if others wanna go out and take the risk + use precautions, they should be allowed to. this isn’t very complicated. there’s no logic that concludes keeping an economy closed is the best risk/reward.

I think this is the major part that I disagree with conservatives on. I think government has the obligation to and should try to minimize unnecessary activity outside. Doctors and nurses don't have a choice and have to help patients that come in with serious complications because of coronavirus, regardless of whether they have enough PPE or not, essentially putting their lives at risk. In addition, the millions of people that go around celebrating Memorial Day weekend will lead to a spike of cases, leading to an increased amount of coronavirus patients in hospitals, meaning less attention given to those who only go out when necessary and tried to protect themselves.

But that doesn't mean government shouldn't have that power when needed. If the next major disease that comes around to the USA is much deadlier than COVID-19, like the 50% fatality rate for Ebola, I would hope that most would want to government to have the ability to heavily restrict activity and limit exposure if it was for the purpose of saving American lives. I seriously doubt that WHO allowed people in African areas affected by Ebola to move around freely. I believe rapid contract tracing and isolation of anyone potentially exposed to the virus.

Ugh lay off the Fox News. You act like we are the only country to implement these measures amid a global health pandemic. Government was created through the need to protect people and provide law and order. This situation is a matter of national security and as such, the government is free to act in ways to protect the people (not just you as a selfish person but the larger people as a whole). Not a Trump fan but his actions, along with the many Governors together, did lead to a drastic cut in deaths, will we ever know how many? No. But, no matter what actions were taken people were going to view them as too drastic and if none were taken, then too little was done and we have a million deaths.

While we join in wearing our tinfoil hats, please tell us what your concerns are and what precedence this sets for these future scenarios.

The risk is not just to you - you may not become symptomatic for 10 days but you can carry and spread the virus for those 10 days to all the places you go. You could even show zero symptoms at all and still be spreading it.

This is not the government protecting you from yourself, this is protecting other people from you. Yes, you may get over it no problem but you spread it to people who won't.

The best metaphor I've heard is akin to a Navy ship going dark in WWII to dodge a U-boat. One light, against the blackness, and they will see us and sink us, and it only works if we all do it. The people ignoring the quarantine are the guy lighting a cigarette- personal enjoyment that will get us all killed.
