Dealing With Anxiety

Just as the title states, I’m having a bit of an issue with anxiety lately. I’ve been busting my a** this year with school and networking and it looks like I’m 0/2 possibly 0/3 in superdays. I just graduated, and I feel like crap. Some days I just get this overwhelming worrying feeling like everything is going to go wrong, and it will last for hours or the whole day on and off. It’s not a full blown anxiety attack, but it feels like I’m just about to have one, and it’s beginning to intervene with my appetite. Something as simple as driving seems like a task now because I’m worried about my anxiety. I’ve been like this for about 2 weeks and overall, it’s slightly getting better, but I’m wondering if anybody has dealt with this issue before? How can I tackle this, and on another note, what do I need to be doing to land FT investing roles?

Work out, date, invest in your friendships, eat well, meditate.

Read “The Defining Decade” by Meg Jay for a push but also “The Blue Zone Project” for perspective.

Judge yourself by your inputs rather than your outputs. Be honest about your inputs and patient with your outputs.

If you browse LinkedIn and feel jealous of someone else’s experience, see their experience as a learning opportunity rather than a measuring stick and ping them for advice.

Breathe. Repeat.

I’ve been struggling with anxiety for the past 2 years and I already made it into the IB job I wanted... am lucky but with anxiety all worries are relative and readjust once you reach the next step (although gratitude helps!). Learn how to value your happiness and protect your energy, and i promise you will thank yourself later.

You got this.

“Learn how to value your happiness”

Absolutely right man. I think this is what triggered it. I came up empty handed this recruiting season and so I think part of my anxiety was triggered by me realizing that my happiness was hinged on this image of breaking into “high finance” with ease.

Nothing is easy! It’s ok. This is coming from a girl who recruited off cycle post grad so trust me I know how it feels. Just take advantage of your positive attributes and craft a good story. If you’re strategic and reflective you’ll work it out and come out more resilient too.

Hahah my dude you are making me laugh.
fun fact, everyone eventually deals with anxiety. Whether it be in a relationship, starting a family, a new job, pressure from work or school... it’s normal!!!
Me, like most people, have all gone through this at different points in life. Don’t look at this as a bad thing, but a good thing that it’s happening to you at a young age and you can learn from it and grow from it.

Some good books are; feel the fear and do it anyway by Susan Jeffers and one of my favorites, A mans search for meaning by Viktor Frankl

Stop comparing yourself to others. Your life is your life. Remember life is a marathon, not a sprint. Also don’t pay too much attention to comments on here. From my experience most comments on here are senseless and written by immature individuals.

Do you my guy. Also if anxiety gets too bad go see a professional. They help a ton. As I said before you might see this as a burden right now, but soon you will become stronger because of it.

As for jobs I’m in the same boat as you. Just graduated and still hunting. But hey, it makes me want it that much more. I’ve just recently started a new approach to finding a job. Instead of applying I have been using linkedin to message analyst and associates at companies I would want to work for. Follow up with them frequently. I’ve been getting more phone calls and meetings and soon I am sure it will pay off!

Good luck man! You got this.
