Sorry to hear this man. My dad went through something similar... but at the age of 40. He came back it was hard as first but you just have to work hard for him. I'm glad you care so much it shows you're a good person. My advice would be to stick in banking and maximize your earnings. Praying things work out for you and your dad.

This is really tough to share. Im sorry this is happening to you and your family. This is an awful situation, and even though we all make our own decisions in life, this is just terrible. I think the most you can do is be there for them, support them if times are really tough; however, that being said you need to make your own way in life. These mistakes are on your father, and while its terrible, you need to grow into your own career and then you can support him and your family with ever increasing force. Im sure your father wouldn't want to see you throw your life upside down to run a business that would prevent you from reaching your dreams.

Why is he working 110 hour weeks at his age? I’m all for being driven but there’s more to life than simple net worth. Are you his only kid? You’re in banking, there’s a high chance you’ll be fine financially for the rest of your life. You have skills that can keep you employed, even start your own venture if you feel like it.

Sometimes I take my dad out to lunch and talk with him honestly. I’m really trying to get him to “retire” from his day job. He’s involved with a prominent MMA company as a part time sometimes weekend job (for him, he doesn’t care about the money. He just loves the whole environment), so I’m trying to get him to do that more (no, he doesn’t fight).

Anyway, I’ll tell him how I see it. I just speak honestly about what I think is bothering him and try to give him a different perspective. FWIW my dad is similar to yours, foster kid with no family and has built up a decent NW (not $2.5-5MM but still happy to see him doing well)

Everyone quit the restaurant because they got paid 2x to sit at home and get unemployment. I even worked during the weekend while doing training
