There's a good chance that you're largely/completely on your own. Are you covered for dental as an intern? Will you continue to be for the (likely multi-year) process? Your best bet is just to call your insurance and ask what they cover.
Sorry, I meant to ask this for full-time employees not interns
Yes -- my dental insurance covered ~$2k for a total of $12k for my lingual braces. Definitely worth it.
It might vary depending on the insurance your job provides, you should call your insurance and then get quotes/consultations from a few ortho offices. In my case it covered half of my invisalign, def worth it.
I second this- it's really dependent on which insurance you're on. My dad has excellent insurance and it's ridiculously cheap to get pretty much everything covered. I do not have great dental insurance, it's not bad by any means it's just average.
how do you figure out if you have excellent insurance versus great dental insurance? Can't you pay more for better insurance or no? Thanks!
As to insurance: CALL!!! ( I guess you could email as well, but I think even with the wait time you're probably better calling. They'll assume they aren't on the record [look up one-party recording rules in your state] and are more likely to give a candid answer.)
Employers normally budget $X per employee for benefits. If you go for the higher cost insurance you're normally paying for it, you aren't normally getting more free, you're just paying differently.
This answers the question.
My dad has worked in the government for some time, they tend to not get the highest salaries but have outstanding benefits at a much lower cost compared to many private companies.
Most companies give you 1-3 HMO options and 1-3 PPO options, and what is out of your pocket can vary from company to company.
