Diablo III

Are any of you monkeys into Diablo III? A lot of guys around the office keep talking about it. To be honest, I don’t know much about it, and was hoping that someone could enlighten me. I haven’t really played computer games in a LONG time and want to get back into it a little bit (I used to play Counter Strike). What’s it about? Is it worth it? Can I play it on a Finance schedule? Or is it like that World of Warcraft non-sense?

It's essentially a one player game and you can save whenever and whenever so it is very doable on a finance schedule. I played in the beta and it was a good story line so far. I'd say pick it up if you're thinking about it.

I was godly in D2 and Gladiator status in World of Warcraft, not planning on playing D3 though.

Better to work on other components of your life, like getting chicks.

Money's a little tight right now so I'll probably wait a few weeks to pick it up. I'm still debating whether or not to get it though. I've been heavily into Dota 2 for the past few months and I don't think I have enough time right now with 2 jobs and Dota 2 to play another game.

I too will have to play it on a finance schedule, so hopefully I can help. If the WoW nonsense you are talking about (and I used to play practically 24/7 in HS), is that you can't be a "good" player on a finance schedule and that there are bevvies of 13 year old trolls running around, D3 will probably be better.

While D3 can be multiplayer, it's not a MMO -- you can work through the quests on your own time without the world rapidly moving forward without you. You could run into some 13 year olds but given that multiplayer isn't required, you can also avoid this.

As for the game itself, if you're a fan of an interesting storyline and prefer more "comic-like" (in this case, similar to WoW) graphics, you might really enjoy this. It's not as intense as a FPS or RTS, but it can be challenging enough to still be interesting. If you have some friends playing, you can tackle hellspawn together, or you could just play 15 minutes at a time per night.

The launch has been buggy, but I'd definitely recommend it. The Diablo series is one of the more original ones in the gaming world (though Elder Scrolls has it beat, IMO), and with the variety of classes/play customization and lore (if you're a turbonerd like I am), it's a lot of fun.
