Difference between SIE Study Guide Editions?

Hi there, apologies if this has been answered previously, but I have struggled to find a proper answer. I was gratuitously gifted Kaplan's SIE License Exam Manual, 3rd ed. I am aware that a 4th edition exists, and I'm wondering if I can get by with the 3rd. Also, in terms of the available study guides, how good is Kaplan? I.e. stay away, good enough, etc. Don't mind forking out a little bit of money... just want to pass. Thank you!
