Do jobs cross check with criminal background information?
I'm planning on explaining something on my criminal background but I'm wondering if they will be cross checking with officers, witnesses, court, etc? There are some details that I didn't tell officers because they didn't seem to care but I would like to tell HR to give better context but I'm worried it will look like I'm lying or being twisting the story in my favor. Wondering if they'll call up witnesses and officers because I was pretty stunned in the moment so I wasn't able to give a proper explanation at the site.
What is the criminal charge? They don't have the resources or legal standing to call up officers or witnesses, but court is public record so anything in there will be discovered.
You're not really given a chance to "explain" - it's either the charge is serious enough to get rescinded, or they find it but it's not a major offense. Just hope that whatever is on the public record isn't too damning. Also if this is for something dumb like a minor in possession or open container, don't even worry about it
depends what is the crime? be honest
I disclosed a criminal record to my first grad job, they said they would take it in to consideration but didnt mean an instant ding. turns out, it didnt even turn up on the check, so I haven't disclosed it since.
Are you legally convicted? Then nope. May still have to explain things if they somehow bring it up. But that's it.
