Wait... by train do you mean do you commute into Manhattan by Train on MetroNorth, the Long Island Railroad or New Jersey Transit or are you using the word "Train" in lieu of a more accurate term like "The Subway" or "The PATH".
That said, when I was first starting out, I would take NJ Transit into the city and then walk (or subway/cab it if the weather was awful). Now, I take the PATH in and walk it unless the weather is awful.

When it makes financial sense, I'm moving closer to where I work, and if they'll let me camp out in the office, even better.

My company doesn't reimburse commuter expenses, but I don't have to pay taxes on them, they are auto deducted from my paycheck.
Subway/Bus 99% of the time. I never drive in NY. Taxi if I'm running late
