Drinking as an intern

During social events will it look bad if I deny drinks? I cant really drink because of health issues (nausea, puking) that take in effect almost immediately. Was thinking of making excuses like im underage (?) because technically I am? Or should I just be straight forward with my medical issues. Will this look bad on me?

If you know nothing about ER, you shouldn't drink.

"If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them." - Bruce Lee

At my bank this summer the only time we drank was at intern events like boat cruise, nyse and stuff like that. Only drank with my MD and other team members when we went out to lunch on the last day to celebrate the end of the internship and felt uncomfortable ordering a beer but everyone on the team got one and the other interns.

Totally fine not to drink, and plenty of people are underage or just don't drink so you will not be alone. If you're underage you probably can't anyway - at my BB the intern events are tightly controlled with wristbands from HR for who is of age, etc, and even if it's an open bar I wouldn't get a drink at an HR-organized event if you are not 21.

Grab a water or soda at the bar if you feel awkward about it, or want something to hold, and then no one will even know.
