I have the ChiliSleep Dock Pro not Eight Sleep and it's pretty great, been keeping my body cool through night. Did a bit of research prior to buying and went with the ChiliSleep over the Eight Sleep because the Eight Sleep only runs on Wifi and does not have any manual controls on the device, the ChiliSleep is controlled by wifi as well but also has manual temp controls on the cooling unit. If your Wifi goes out the Eight Sleep becomes an expensive mattress cover.

I turn down the thermostat at night. Why would I need this?

If turning the thermostat down works for you then you probably don't need it but that doesn't work for everyone. I used to just turn my thermostat down but I would need to turn it down to 65 degrees so I didn't wake up all sweaty in the middle of the night, which makes for a very cold morning getting out of bed. With a cooling pad now I can sleep well and I don't have to keep my house at an uncomfortably low temp. Thermostat also isn't a viable option with a significant other, cooling pads typically have dual control for each side of the bed.

These are a stupid gimmick, just use your thermostat.
