If the purpose of the coffee chat was to simply continue building rapport with the individual, then I'd say no, you didn't. However, if you're looking to leverage that individual for more contacts, then you'd usually ask at the end of the first chat.

In my experience, it is the experienced individuals that are concise and fruitful with their coffee chats. They understand the purpose behind the meeting and will lead throughout.

This is from my experience as an undergraduate student. Hopefully the professionals on WSO will be able to answer your question more effectively.
