Every job sounds boring

  • IBD is just about chasing deals.
  • Every investment job is extremely execution-driven: you follow a rigorous process and there's little room for creativity.

Where the fuck is adventure in this world? Shit I just want to be a conquistador and go slay some Indians and get their gold.

Entrepreneurship focused on cash-generative ventures may be an option

Arguably one of the closest analogues to the conquistadores today would be being a soldier in a drug cartel. Is that a fun life for you? All that danger? Killing people for resources? You do know that drugs are all about deals too. Pizarro was making cutthroat deals to Atahualpa when he captured him. Everything’s deals, even the adventures you crave. I like to work on deals that make me money and keep my limbs intact. If I wanted to pick up an AK and go do the conquistador crap, I can always do that, but the people doing that can’t do what I do. That’s the power.

EDIT: I’ll go a step further. If Pizarro and the conquistadores were alive today, there’s a good chance they would be in finance.

Just a few differences:

- Drug cartel soldiers are cannon fodder. Conquistadores were small group of men who became land owners later on

- Drug trafficking is illegal. It's not just about making moves to conquer territory, since it's also about evading authorities. Ending up in jail is absolutely shitty.

However I wouldn't mind the danger in itself, honestly I'd even be stimulated by it. I'm more of a Cortez fan though

I'm all in on crypto, but I'm looking for interesting potential career paths. I expect to have saved enough by my thirties to be able to retire, but what then? I'd still crave adventure. It's not just about investing your wages, it's about finding a way of life providing actual adventure

I got quite good at programming before going into banking but developing the latest Snapchat filter isn't really the dopamine hit I'm after

Horseshit. Once again dangling the golden carrot for people to chase. You and I both know that very few people can ever make it those positions and it’s largely outside of your control. You physically can’t have a large supply of individuals being paid like that. I’d argue it requires way more luck and outside factors to climb upwards that way than doing something on your own entrepreneurial/trading crypto/whatever it may be.

It’s always “oh here’s the next goalpost, you can get there too someday after 20 years!” Cmon don’t sugar coat things. What percent of banking analyst stay long term in the supposed “golden” land of the buyside even? Wake up guys.
