Facebook Graph feature is gamechanging and pretty scary

The stuff you can find on this is incredible (literally). Friend is in the beta, we've been testing it out recently.

Examples:

For the Stalker:
Single women that like gym near my city? Shows the gym and the names and profiles of all the women, no opt out.

For the statistical dater:
Bar/Restaurant liked by most single women.

The opportunist:
Female friends of mine that are single or "its complicated"

The sinister:
Refine search by age.

There's no opt out. You will be found. Sleep well.

(the finding women theme is aimed at the target audience, dont read too much into it).

Guarantee I'll never use that thing. And I'm not worried because I don't put my life on Facebook/Instagram/Twitter/etc.

And your examples are plausible because it's almost literally just women and teenagers that think the Internet is private.

One more reason not to get on Facebook. Won't their users ever start leaving? Even pre-graph search, the privacy issues were huge. Does our generation just not care? I would argue that maybe people think they can be safe if they manage their privacy settings, but I see tons of open profiles.

I really am still amazed by that company's market cap. I have to wonder how many of their users actually use the site as more than just a chat client.

The only way I can see people leaving facebook en masse is if there's a replacement. If a new site starts up and happens to become cool then yes. Also if the advertising becomes more aggressive.

Facebook has already scared everybody out of 'liking' things. Anything you like will be plastered on all of your friends' news feeds, and nobody wants to air their laundry out there. Wait.......that's actually what 99% of users do

I see this being a pretty big issues in countries where the risk of extorsion and kidnapping is high.

If I'm a kidnapper/extorsioner with a list of people who are potential targets, Facebook is essentially doing the bulk of my leg work.

In the case of the bulk of the audience of WSO, I guess the main concerns of this new feature is identity theft and stalking. Can't really think of anything else.

My female friend actually tried "Single males who work at [insert top-tier company name here] in [insert top-tier city name here]" on graph search.

We were giggling over the pictures. I swear it's better than Match.com =)))

You're an inspiration.

That's actually a hilariously great idea. How long before people start gaming the system for jobs and women by planting bullshit on their profile? Zuckerberg thwarted.
