Favorite country to visit?

Just read one of the trending discussions today (What is your LEAST favorite country that you've visited and why?) and it prompted me to ask where your favorite destinations to travel have been? Currently planning a vacation and insight would be valuable. Targeting a cheap Asian country, other than that, I am clueless as to where I want to go.

My favorite country to travel to is Italy. Great food, beautiful language and architecture. Going to Rome was a great experience for me.

Yeah sorry I know it’s off topic but it is my favorite country to visit and I had such a great time I felt like recommending it.

Would highly recommend, in addition to Tokyo, spending time in one or more of: Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Fukuoka, Yokohama

Be excellent to each other, and party on, dudes.

Second that. I travelled by train from Fukuoka to Hiroshima to Kyoto to Tokyo. One of my most memorable 2 weeks. I travelled in early August, there was a typhoon coming from the south and the museums in Kyoto were closed one day. But it didn't directly hit the city.

Argentina - Buenos Aires, Mendoza, Patagonia, Mar del Plata, Iguazu Falls. At the current exchange rate, you can have a Michelin star 4-course meal for $30.

"I don't know how to explain to you that you should care about other people."

Second Poland. Although I might have some reservation too, since I have a very good friend who's Polish and he told me I've only been to the good part (Warsaw and Krakow)

Hungary --- not so much.

Persistency is Key

I have some family there, Poland is a beautiful country all over. Warsaw and Krakow are just the most developed, but there's great hiking and skiing around Zakopane in the south, 2,000+ lakes in the northeastern Mazury region, and generally lots of history all throughout. Actually trying to organize a trip with some friends to Eastern Europe in a couple years.

Hong Kong, once the protests calm down. I loved that place. So much to do, Lan Kwai Fong is the most fun nightlife experience of my life. Lan Kwai Fong is basically two streets where everyone is drinking outside and having a good time, and then at some point in the night, people go out to the bars and clubs, which stay open until the sun comes up.

Hong Kong has lots of internationals to hang out with at horse racing. Great good, the best dim sum in the world. A real urban jungle, with probably the best public transit in the world as well, or second only to Japan.

Just got back after my 4 day trip. Can confirm - HK is a great place. Exceeded my expectations with the mix of city and nature and the protests were not inhibiting. I think that from a tourism perspective, the protests are being over blown. Not to say they do not distrupt things or have a large presence, but if you're putting off HK because of the protests, dont.

I'd disagree, you should go to HK right now and get a great discount on everything. The hotels are super cheap (cheaper than renting an apartment in some cases) because no tourists are coming. Very dynamic and wonderful place, don't be a pussy it's not Iraq, you're way safer in a HK with protests (also totally overblown according to my friends there) than in Chicago or St Louis.

Can confirm, was in HK a little over a month ago and it was still a lot of fun, just humid as shit which I didn't like but otherwise amazing food and wonderful people.

Sri Lanka is hands-down the best place I’ve ever visited. I’ve been very fortunate in my life to have travelled a lot (~40 countries), and it seems that everywhere has at least some touristy/westernized feel to it, but Sri Lanka is the exception. Due to their recently-ended civil war, the country has not been able to develop their tourism industry as much as other areas in the region, which makes it feel very much “off-the-beaten-path” in a fantastic way.

I did a tour of the interior and then part of the southwestern coastline, skipped Colombo altogether to have more time for the interesting places like Kandy, Galle, and Sigiriya. I will say that a downside is simply how difficult it was to travel (the roads are often in disrepair and you have to hire a driver), and I wouldn’t go with young children since it’s a less comfortable place than they may be used to, but it is still my favorite place to visit. The people are all extraordinarily friendly, unlike any other culture I’ve encountered anywhere else.

Perfect timing on this. Was deciding between Sri Lanka and a few other places for a trip in two weeks and this sealed the deal

"Brewdy Juuliani" The Ukraine. Great all year round!

Why do people keep putting "the" in front of Ukraine?

Favorite countries would have to be countries in Europe that uses the Euro (Italy, France, etc.). They are cheap, easy to get to during off-peak season and have really good food and culture to explore outside the main cities.
