Has anyone planned and been successful in achieving financial independence before you were in your 40s? Can you share how you made it and how much net worth you had to accumulate? Also, how does your life change when you have reached your goal?

Bump cause I was looking for something similar. I've read a lot on here about lifestyle inflation setting in often and making people stuck to jobs like IB. Anyone here go into banking with intentionality to "FIRE" or at least save some money and then maybe move away from IB or to a lower cost of living area?

I respect the fuck out of anyone who has done this, I just cannot imagine quitting work before age 40. I love my job too much and I love the challenge. I wonder what these people do with all of their time when you figure they are only spending $2-4k/mo. it's not like they're worth $20mm and can spend the rest of their years travelling
The "community," as it is, is typically divided between "FIRE" people who have absurdly impressive saving habits and minimalistic lifestyles and "Fat FIRE" people who usually have between $5MM and $20MM net worths. Lots of doctors, tech workers, and yes, wall street types.
I too think I would bore quickly, but I also think I wouldn't hate working ~3 days a week, from wherever I want, specifically only working on projects that I want, as opposed to the endless grind.
Don't forget about "Lean Fire" I don't how they live but they do somehow.
