Fired for Falling Asleep at Work

I'm a senior Finance major. My first internship was in audit and went well. After that, I got an internship in real estate development and was really liking it. But I haven't been sleeping much between school, work, and other obligations.

I fell asleep at my desk and the accountant girl walked in, saw me, and got HR. I woke up and there were two HR people looking very concerned and asked me if I was on drugs or whatever. I said that I was just tired and that I'd get back to work. They insisted on me going home and sleeping and called me a car. This was yesterday. Today, I got a call from HR telling me I'm fired.

So I'm in the market for a new internship. Should I put the RE Dev internship on my resume? It's a reputable firm and would help me, but an employer may call them to verify. And all HR is allowed to say is my start and end date and that I was fired. And the employer will assume it was for something worse than sleeping at my desk.

Or I can leave it off and only use my audit internship as past experience.

What's your take on the trade-off and how likely is it that an employer actually checks?
If it matters, I'm gonna aim for RE Dev and Trading internships.

There is no law that requires you to list all your past employments, I sharpened skates for a year & I don't list that on my resume for applying to fin jobs.

That's all the advice I can give. Not sure how to proceed with the rest of your questions, good luck!

don't bother listing it you did this internship concurrently while going to school? i wouldn't worry about it too much

.

Call the company that fired you and ask them what they will say specifically if a company checks your employment history. They may tell you they will say we fired you or they may say your employment ended and just the dates. Then play it based off that going forward.

Frank Sinatra - "Alcohol may be man's worst enemy, but the bible says love your enemy."

Just don't list it. The internship sounded lame as shit if they can you for passing out at your desk briefly. Calling a car to send you home? Did you work for Wet Blanket Mothers of America?

Obviously there is more to this story than you are telling us.

I'm pretty sure they thought I was fucked up, but I was just really fucking tired and had bags under my eyes.

I just laughed out loud.

She won't be.

jk I'm not gonna do shit.

I'm laying in bed at 11:20am with my laptop listening to music. This is a weird feeling. I think I'm gonna go miss a train just for fun.

You don't need to list that company. Just take anything you learned there and hold onto it. P

Only two sources I trust, Glenn Beck and singing woodland creatures.

Man it's quite harsh. Why you don't just explain to them that you haven't slept well for a week and you just fell asleep ? Tell them it won't happen again and swear to god you weren't on drugs

And why the girl went to notice the HR ? OMG she really sucks.

I literally think if this happened at my shop and I was the supervisor who had to make a judgment call, I'd fire the girl who went and got HR. I could justify that way easier than I could justify firing someone for nodding off for a while.

Stop begging for help as you just don't reply to serious posts. I think you're that kind of guy contemplating himself in his shit so that everybody looks at him just like a kid.

I hate trying to solve others' issues when they don't take the hand you give to them.

Bingo. @"tonixity" Love you bro.

I once missed a meeting cos I overslept..when my manager asked later why I told him I had smoked weed and was high as shit and that I was doing the company a favor by not being there...ofcourse it helps if u know ur manager and his wife and also the office girl he was screwing around.....that weekend we smoked shit together....bang....there u go...

If I were you I would go right back and demand to be reinstated cos its 1. stupid to fire someone for dozing off. 2. being caught sleeping

Go back there, rather than crying like a girl go talk to your senior and consider yourself a failure if you are not able to get your internship back and bang the hottest bitch in HR inside one hour.

I remember reading somewhere that falling asleep at work in Japan is a highly respected event because it shows that you're exhausted from working hard. Anyone else ever heard of this?
