Free Ipads for Hispanic and Black Students in my school. WTF?

So, my college just decided to give free Ipad 2's to Hispanic and Black students enrolled there. We are a small school, but with a sizable proportion of those two groups. No Native American students here, unfortunately.

How the fuck can the school do that?

Way I see it: Can't get good grades without the help of an iPad.

Of course, the grades will still be lower even with the help of the iPad. Nothing to see here.

your title implies that your school handed out ipads indiscriminately to all black and hispanic students. in reality, this program is intended for "at-risk" graduates who are a part of some special program and LENDS them an ipad (hence the title, "iPad Lending Program").

now all the brilliant minds of WSO will chime in with racist comments and cry about the bigotry they face as a white/asian/indian. how lovely.

So, how exactly does having an Ipad help "at-risk" students? What does "at-risk" mean anyway? How does race or ethnicity factor into this?

The only thing I hate more than affirmative action is a Asian/South-Asian/Desi person who supports AA.
