Getting Job Back After Quitting

One question I never see on here is how to get a job back after quitting. Say you leave a company on great terms to pursue a new and exciting opportunity. Then after a few months you realize the new career path is not for you, and you want to move back to your old company.

How common do you think this is? Say you do get your old job back, what stigmas will follow you (being known as the guy who quit and begged to come back, last of trust, etc.)?Curious to hear your thoughts / experiences
