Going Green: Tesla Motors & Ecotality

Hello Fellow Monkeys,

As everyone continues to follow the price of oil and future oil exploration, I am curious to see what you guys have to say about two "green" companies: Tesla Motors and Ecotality. Would you consider these two companies to be a wise "long-term" investment for the future.

Most recently MS analysts came out with a very optimistic report regarding Tesla Motors and the future of the EV market.

Tesla Motors manufactures fully electric (EV) vehicles. Ecotality manufactures electric charging infrastructures.

Electric Cars - Why do I hate thee. They're about as green as the energy burned to make them which is, coal nuclear natural gas and oil.

Regarding the cars themselves, a lot of manufacturers with big names are releasing some big things. i can't see the place falling, especially since upmarket sports cars are such a brand thing. highly competitive market and they dont have the cash to compete with the bigger names. Notwithstanding what happens if oil prices drop.

In terms of going green as a solid investment, you'll be amazed what priorities go out the window first for people when times get tough.
