Headline: Sharpton Urges NFL to Block Limbaugh
So I'm scanning through this mornings dealbook and I came across this headline. After only reading the first few sentences I am struck with awe....Al Sharpton actually wants the NFL to block the sale of the St. Louis Rams to Rush Limbaugh! Personally, I wouldn't buy the rams because they are a huge piece of shit, but to say that someone cannot buy something because of the personality they project is another. I mean Sharpton said it would be "bad" if the NFL allowed it. Seems like a great argument...
What are you guys opinions on this? Are we going to start regulating the sale of sports franchises? This is ridiculous and so is Al Sharpton...
I for one am tired of Sharpton's antics and hope the sale goes through to Limbaugh, if hes serious about buying.
Al Sharpton is an idiot, but the player's union has also expressed misgivings. Limbaugh would only be a minority owner, so any drops in ticket and merch sales related to his presence would be costing other people money as well. I wouldn't blame the NFL for stepping in and trying to avoid a Marge Schott-esque PR nightmare down the road.
I can't stand Limbaugh, but a comparison to Marge Schott is a little out of bounds (no pun intended). He made a simple observation that Donovan McNabb was overrated, and he was right. You just can't say those things in America anymore.
While I don't doubt that Sharpton's opposition is ideological in nature, I think even the good reverend would have a tough time proving Limbaugh is a racist. Doesn't he have a Dominican maid that mules drugs for him or something?

Limbaugh has an extensive history of making racially charged comments
Not a fan of either of these guys. But regarding McNabb, Limbaugh didn't just say he was overrated, he said he was overrated because America wanted to see a black QB excel. Whether true or not, Edmundo is right, you def can't say those things in America anymore.
The fact that the players union is taking a position on this doesnt bode well for Limbaugh. Neither does the fact that St. Louis is about 50% black (I think, could be pulling that number out of my ass), which could get local politicians chiming in. If this thing continues to escalate I wouldn't be surprised if Limbaugh quietly withdrew his bid due to pressure from his partners fearing a PR backlash to an already crap team.
While Sharpton can't prove Limbaugh is a racist he only needs to cite some of his more absurd racially tinged comments for backing. Bottom line here though: def ridiculous that Sharpton is trying to control what Limbaugh does with his money. But Sharpton saw a chance to be in the media again and took it.
limbaugh is a fat racist pos who needs to stop taking the oxycontin. Although I'm not a fan of Sharpton, why invite someone who can serve as negative branding for your team?
I pay little attention to the crackpot, so I really had no idea how big a part of his shtick this whole race thing was. Praising James Earl Ray and making the case that slavery is a viable economic model is nauseating and should disqualify you from acquiring a company where the majority of your employees are black.
That said, the country really needs to get over the hyper-sensitivity about every little fucking thing.

Edmundo, check your sources. Rush never made those comments about James Earl Ray.
The way I read it, he didn't deny making the statement, he just said no one would ever find a transcript of it.
But I'd be pleased to find out he didn't say anything that despicable, too. Unfortunately, he's no longer a person I'd be willing to give the benefit of the doubt (and that has nothing to do with his purported racism).

"NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips". That's pretty f.ed up. IF he really said that, then he really doesn't deserve to join the League.
