Very relatable and have worked on this over the past year. I also came from a relatively small midwestern town (20k). It really started with getting in shape (have lost 20lbs since college and noticed I get more looks), stop caring and being direct in anything (to a point), and honestly getting closer in my faith. Also pinning down what your purpose is (why do you do what you do) is key. I joined a boxing gym as well, which was a huge booster. I wrestled for 5 years so I always had confidence in strength but it’s different now mentally. I feel better, I move better, I carry myself different. When it came to work product, I stopped putting people on a pedestal (sometimes telling yourself you dgaf what they think) and more so trusted my skills and analysis and talked with confidence. This one’s huge, if you can back your view with sensible points, and speak with conviction, it really helps. Even if you may be wrong, people respect someone who has their own viewpoint / confidence. Mesh those things together day by day, and you’ll start to see what I mean. When it came to chicks, I stopped having that voice in the back of my head and started flowing with my thoughts to however I wanted. Hard to describe this one. Lastly, started picking up hobbies (I.e, watches, cars, general learning) to have more substance in conversations. People like someone they can relate too

Having a consistent workout routine - whether that's running, lifting, hybrid, whatever - improves your brain chemistry and makes you feel more sure of yourself. Consistency is key.

Cleaning up your diet goes hand in hand with training and will also make you feel much better about yourself.

Finally any form of delayed gratification signals to your brain "we're good at working now for a better payoff later" which increases self respect.

Confidence is built by living up to your standards

If you believe that eating healthy is important, and you don't do it, that's a small mental failure. If you do it, that's a small dopamine hit/win = the 'winning' personality shines = the confident personality.

The more standards you have (workking out/social/intellectual, etc.) the wider are the swings both up and down in terms of confidence. If you're failing 10 habits daily that you think are important for you, then you'll feel a bit defeated. If you manage to do them, then you'll feel good and your confident personality will come out.

Nothing complicated, general advice on how to be confident is just generic mainstream talk

Gym and working hard?By anchoring your confidence on stuff like ur physique and achievements will give you a layer of the fake confidence that the secular success requires. But ultimately, confidence is just another kind of delusion that's gonna amount to nothing.

"If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them." - Bruce Lee
