How Red and Blue Colors Can Help Your Career And Life

Do you ever notice how red and blue can sometimes be at odds with each other? For example, we see it in Coke vs Pepsi, GOP vs Dems etc. But why do these two colors have such prominence? Research shows that red and blue not only conveys a certain personality, but can also manipulate behavior according to an article by LiveScience and studies in the journal Science:

The study found that red is the most effective at enhancing our attention to detail, while blue is best at boosting our ability to think creatively. Red boosted performance on detail-oriented tasks such as memory retrieval and proofreading up to 31 percent more than blue. For brainstorming and other creative tasks, blue cues prompted participants to produce twice as many creative outputs compare to red cues.

Red has other effects rather than just a business setting. Both women and men found each other more attractive statistically when wearing red. Probably because red is often associated with power and passion. In sports, teams that wore red were also statistically more likely to win because referees were more lenient towards them. Politicians and marketers understands this, and perhaps we should too.

I was looking through another thread on WSO where a MS executive suggested that junior associates should avoid wearing red ties unless you wanted to get fired. Not sure if it's true, but I can see why if it were, even though it sounds a little draconian. Regardless, you can't go wrong with either colors.

Do you prefer blue or red more? Do you agree with this assessment? If so, would you use this knowledge to your advantage or is it all hokum to you?

Cane0180That's a pretty dope tie

You're kidding right?

As much I would like to think of myself as a liberal this has got to be the biggest media concocted horseshit and no pun intended to the thread opener. Red & blue may be the conventional norm in all circles but by no means do they convey a superiority or lack of it for that matter. Others may pitch in to tell me otherwise.
