How to approach vacation time as analyst/associate?

Incoming FT, curious how people handle their PTO. Obviously bringing work phone/laptop on trip, but what general expectations are for juniors on vacation during non-holiday times (ie. not Xmas, new years, etc)? What's an acceptable boundary to set in terms of response time?
