"famejranc" how to be alpha?

what are your tips, your stories, your thoughts..................

how to be alpha?

I'm purposely not alpha, as it can be threatening to coworkers and bosses. If you mock my skills, the length of my hours etc. it won't bother me. I've got a half dozen letters after my name and know how to come through in the clutch, and be a team player when needed.

There is also nothing like being the most junior person on the call with real bigwigs, (think MD++ to lower level C-suite) and being the only person able to put 1+1+1 together and say that a legal opinion was going to blow up a multi-billion dollar fund with possible firmwide reputational risk. Sometimes the less you speak, the more that they listen, especially when you are keeping yolk off of their faces.

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

Funniest
  1. hold your bladder... wait until you really have to go, then go and push it out as hard as you can. your coworkers will admire the strength and power of your stream.

  2. come in late on speakerphone

  3. tell whoever you see first to hold your calls

  4. always bring a gym bag

  5. walk into the office with your shades on, even if its raining

  6. always have something to mail, even if its fake

  7. always say I'll have to check my schedule

Get an Equinox membership but like not for the gym itself, just so you can always talk about it. Some examples: 1. Walk into a client meeting late and say "sorry for the hold up guys, I had to hit the Nox before I came in." 2. Someone asks you to do something? "I'll put it on the docket for later--I'm hitting the Nox soon and need to leave time after to decompress, you know catch my breath. Stay grounded always." 3. Have a hot date? Cancel on her and say "Oh my bad babe had to hit the Nox. My body is a temple and I'm the god it was built for".

This will make those around you tremble in fear or orgasm, or both.

Dayman?

Hey man/ girl. I would consider joining the military, maybe the army or marines specifically. I think then you would gain a lot confidence in yourself and with public speaking. But, if you dont want to go spend four years of your life having fun in the service and then going back to banking to completely tear up the scene and eventually become a C-Suite exec, then just take some public speaking classes and step outside your comfort zone with things. Maybe go learn a martial art, or go take boxing lessons where you can learn how to spar. This helped me a lot with my confidence, but also confidence comes from honing you skills and your craft in life. Maybe just become an expert in something, and know absolulety everything about it and then it will increase your confidence.
