How to deal with an abusive VP? Need some Catharsis

There is a VP on my team, who is pretty lazy and doesnt like doing any work. Yday, one of the other team members was OOO so I asked him to submit something (takes less than 5 minutes) that was supposed to be done by that colleague, since I was busy with some timely project. The guy lashed out on me, telling me I am really unhelpful and messaged me on my cellphone to "go fuck myself".

I handled the situation calmly and he ended up submitting anyway. But, at this point, I am a bit ticked off. I feel I shouldn't have to take this guy's crap.

I need some Catharsis. I could take the screenshots to HR, and he's prob going to get disciplined (but that risks me being labelled as a "snitch") or I could just text some crap to him back? What is the safest way to get back and also not damage my career (my relationship with him is permanently damaged anyway)

P.S. I am not supposed to report directly to this guy  and neither are we paired up on any projects

I'm very against snitching, as ratting someone out is a cardinal sin in my book. However, you are in a spot where if you say shit back, the VP kind of has the upper hand holding all else equal. Honestly, I'd just let it go. As much as that sucks and as much as you probably deserve a chance to just fuckin put this guys lights out, any action you take could hurt your career and then you come out with the L.

Listen to others, don't do anything...yet. Document, document, document. Build a slam dunk case and hold onto that bomb. You may never use it, but just push forward. You seem young, and I don't want to insult you, but you need some emotional intelligence here. "Throwing an insult at him about his weenie" is high school drama. You don't report to him, so don't waste your time trying to get back at him when it holds no value. You still have to work with them on the team in some capacity, so why make your life more hectic, they will just have it out for you even more.

The way I see it, you're trying to get the last laugh too early. Get the last laugh when you have that bomb to drop and, in doing so, you really make an impact (no pun intended).

He’s being a bitch to you because you’re at the bottom of the totem pole and an easy target. Not that you deserve it but 99% that it has nothing to do with you and, ironically, unleashing his frustrations on you is probably cathartic for him.

No point in snitching now over one text because nothing good of it will come for you but the ones who abuse and threaten analysts will usually make it a habit so make sure to keep a paper trail just in case. There are assholes who will stick around because they’re really good at what they do but if he is as you describe, he shouldn’t be around long. Good luck

Yeah I wouldn't narc to hr or be confrontational about it. Just tell the staffer that you don't want to be staffed with this guy and try to avoid him. Eventually, his rep will catch up to him.

Glitterbomb the VP and get it on camera.
