I constantly read that data science and economics go hand in hand and can pave a pathway for a career in investment banking (and many other fields). But economics is a broad topic, and I am unsure about whether people are referring to econometrics or just standard economics. I am a 1st-year university student trying to figure out what majors to pursue and I am currently undertaking a double degree in computer science (data science major) and commerce (economics or econometrics).
Which one should I choose (out of economics, econometrics and other commerce majors) if I want to have the option of transitioning into the field of investment banking when I graduate?
Based on what I've seen from the course handbook, the units within the econometrics course at my university goes into detail probability, stats, modelling and time series analysis. While the economics course is much broader and doesn't specialise in any one area.
I am thinking that econometrics seems more relevant to investment banking than standard economics but I know nothing and I would like to acquire enough knowledge make an informed decision when I choose my majors by the end of this year. Any help would be deeply appreciated. What do you guys think is the best way to go???
Cheers
What are the other commerce majors?
