I just contacted my last chance PE contact - he said he'd give me a favor

This was one of the last cards I wanted to pull... I've been waiting years to pull this card - I'm nervous of the response. I wonder if he will really give me a favor at this point with corona.

He used to be my VP of Management Consulting making bank and then switched to PE for 10yrs.

Why the MS?

I'm stuck in this world of entrepreneur versus corporate, but at least hope for some interesting PT work - FT offer would be considered.

yeah - I wouldn't mind this actually - I don't care about the salary or hours a whole lot, I just want my foot in the door and some time on interesting projects and gaining experience in PE. I'm not sure how this convo is going to go. I plan to be pretty open though. But, I'm later in my career so I think greater leeway is possible.

I find PE very interesting

Yeah definitely. This is a boutique PE firm focused on SCM. I used to be a management consultant in SCM.

I talk to this PE Exec next week - I hope its not too gaudy to request auto WFH status? I'm open to flying around every now and then.

I personally would not request auto WFH status. It feels like asking too much on top of a job. Just assume that's what they're doing for the time being. None of my personal HF/PE & VC contacts are working from the office in NYC. I would assume that some probably are, but as of now it's probably safe to assume they are working from home. Even though offices have re-opened, workers have not been mandated to return back to the office (risk of public transport, high risk individuals living at home...etc).

Chances are if you're not based in the NY NJ CT currently, you'd have to quarantine for 14 days anyways if you were to come in to the region. They can't exactly tell you to start working in the office next Monday...

Thanks for the feedback.

Its out of Chicago - I live in the southeast. I'm okay with flying around if needed a little bit.

*caveat: he said he'd give me a favor in 2006 and 2010, never cashed in until now - lol - honestly keeping in contact isn't one of my strengths

Yeah I guess I should add that in 1996 and 1997 his wife taught me algebra in middle school - his son was my classmate, and I had been to his house back then, so we have practically 24 years of history. I never contacted him much and only asked for a favor from him once before when we were in management consulting. He was the big dog in charge of 1000+ consultants and had $1.1 billion in signings. He probably had a 7 figure salary in that role. He took me under his wing from day 1, personally introducing himself again and called his wife to say that I 'had arrived'. I resigned from management consulting years ago and even after I resigned he left a VM if I ever needed anything - to shoutout. I never took him up on the offer until now.

I'm really bad at reaching out for help - I prefer to be completely independent. It is a weakness of mine.

Interviews are tough for me as my work experience looks like I played career darts and the fact that I am a part time caregiver lowers the tone when I mention I take care of my mom with dementia. I have some hurdles to go and don't even see a reasonable job posting on their site, but was thinking I could be in a financial analytics role for the portfolio of companies if possible. This is my specialty - analyzing financial operations to raise revenues, profits, and apply proper corporate strategy

Isaiah_53_5 what in the actual fuck is going on chief?  These daily posts are killing me man. I genuinely can't even keep track of what you're saying

I pulled a contact from the past to talk about working in PE - that's all.

It went well. It was mostly an informational interview and he described some of the roles available at the company. He said he was going to send my resume to another person in the company to check for fit and get back to me. He said I might have to move on site, so just not sure about that.

I’m really only looking for 20-30 hours maybe remotely.

It would have to be a very good opportunity for me to drop everything I have going in the southeast and move.
