I am an incoming IB analyst with a Mac, and sadly, my firm doesn't provide any funds for buying tech outside of the 10k signing bonus. Wondering what laptop people would recommend. Most of signing bonus is going to be gone to the rent + security deposit + moving so ideally looking for something under 1500.

Just get an external keyboard for your Mac.
My main worry is using Excel and shortcuts. Mac is worse at that, and figure I'll need a Windows PC eventually anyway, so might as well get it early on.
Should be ok with a VM but I think having a windows laptop is useful for personal use like interview prep.
Get a Dell XPS or something.

JPM and Citi are BYOD. You sign onto the VDI cloud from the default computer at the desk and then sign in from your personal device at home.

I bought a refurbished Lenovo for like half off ($900ish) 16in screen with the number pad so it's easy to use while traveling. Otherwise just dock it to my station when I work remote. Works great.
Do you find it annoying to travel with a bigger device?
I'd recommend the Lenovo ThinkPad X9 14 Aura Edition at that price point. This is the closest thing to a WIndows Macbook Air IMO - lightweight, portable, good battery life, the three things that matter most for a work device.
