Invitations to an Event

Hey guys, I'm throwing an event in NYC for a non-profit I'm involved with - but ticket sales have been pretty rough. Any ideas on how to get more people to come? I've got a week until the event.

Thanks in advance.

give out a gram of free coke with each ticket purchase. The bankers will fill the line in no time.

I am the fundraising chair of an NP in Chicago. Hopefully you have a lot of friends because with only one week left you will be hard pressed to drive up any significant sales. If you can describe your situation a little more it may help. Have you already done the obvious, FB event, emailed co-workers, etc.? It really comes down to the ticket $, location and your target demographic.

Contact the gay and metrosexual crowd. They eat that fashion shit up.

News prints, put up posters, message boards, telling everyone you run across about what ever it is chances are some of them will tell others. Those are the only really affordable and time crunch reasonable ways.

It sounds like you're not promoting hard enough. Without knowing anything about your promotions I say that because you didn't even attach a link in your post. That link should be in your signature on this site.

Chicago85 - do you mind saying what NP you're working with in Chicago?

A few things you could do, depending on how hard you wanted to work:

1.) Do you have a good career? Do you know a few people that do that you can get to go, if so, offer them free tickets. Then you sell the event to younger guys or even seniors in college as a sophisticated event that is great for networking, plus the booze that goes with the ticket and it's basically a no brainer for these guys!

2) I do not know anything about NY, I have never been. In Chicago, there is a free newspaper that is targeted towards the 22-30 year old crowd that has a very large circulation called the Red Eye, do you have something similar in NY? If so, you could advertise in there, depending on your budget.

3) NY gets a lot of tourists, tourists check craigslist. Put a post up there for everyone to read, tag it so anyone searching cool things in NY, fashion, or drinking etc. will see. Do you have a NP circle that you can advertize in, NP's support other NP's, especially if there is drinking involved.

Thanks for all of your advice guys, here is the link to the event page: http://www.wvf-ny.org/Events/viviennetam.html

I've also added it to my sig.

Chicago85, 1. Already sent emails out to my work network. Can't do freebies unfortunately...

  1. I will do some searching re the newspaper, offhand I haven't heard of something like that.

  2. I've considered craigslist as a last resort.

Facebook will solve all your problems.

I really do not have any experience with fashion shows, but I picture that there will be hot girls there. You need to sell the fashion/charity to your female or gay demographic and hot women/booze to your male demographic. Then tap your network. Also, after reviewing the event, I do not think Craigslist would be very successful, but you may want to try MeetUp.com.
