Is playing the lottery a good idea?

Got some advice that i should start playing the lottery because:

- it is a chance (although small) to win life changing money

- i can live comfortably already, but even if i save as much as i can, it won't really make a huge difference to my life... i.e. will still have to work, won't be able to do whatever i feel like it or buy whatever i want

Thoughts on this? Is playing the lottery a good idea?

Yeah I think it is a good idea to buy some tickets from time to time. It's fun thinking of what you would do with all the money.

Sure, it can't hurt to give yourself a shot at the Powerball - especially if you have a work pool, in which case you always throw a few dollars in because you don't want to be that person who gets left behind.

Is it a good idea, strictly speaking? Absolutely not - but it's no different than gambling in vegas or day trading, as long as you use what you can afford to lose.. who cares!

Like the others said, if you have an extra $5-10 to kick around from time to time, why not? If you're one of those people dumping hundreds of dollars every paycheck into tickets...? Yeah...no. For what it's worth, when you do pick up a ticket or two, I'd say play your own numbers instead of the "randomly" generated tickets. All that said, best of luck fellow monkey!

One day when I win the $2.2B Powerball, I'll come back to this thread and say that "playing the lottery is not a good idea, but a great idea!" Then I will blow all the money on blow and then have to go back to the corporate grind.
