Kyrie Irving Traded for Isaiah Thomas

The two best eastern conference teams have switched their point guards. Funny enough, this means the 2011 top NBA Draft pick, Kyrie, was traded today for that year's last pick, IT. Both players are strong offensively and weak defensively. Besides IT and the 2018 First Round Draft Pick, Cleveland also received Ante Zizic and Jae Crowder, which could be important contributions in terms of athleticism, height, and defensive power, which Cleveland lacks. Also, Derrick Rose won't be happy to have to take a backseat to Thomas.

Do you think this trade benefits both sides, or will the cost of rebuilding team chemistry too large? I personally do not think Kyrie has the essential ability to inspire his Boston teammates, so Boston got the short end of this deal, whilst Cleveland directly benefitted. Thomas and Kyrie seem somewhat interchangeable to me. The draft pick, as well as the two big men could make this deal worth while for the Cavaliers, in both the long run and the short run. Do you agree?

I disagree - Kyrie is a much better player. He can almost score at will and is a much more dangerous shooter behind the arc. Kyrie is only 25 years old, which is hard to believe, and IT is 29. IT had an unbelievable few years in Boston and was one of the better PGs in the game, but he cannot play both sides of the court. Kyrie + Heyward is going to be a dominant duo in the East (not like that is saying much).

Getting Brooklyn's #1 in 2018 draft sets the Cavs up for when Lebron leaves for L.A after this season.

All in all- I think Boston definitely won the trade.

Kyrie is "a much better player" and "can almost score at will" yet IT averaged more points w/ a better true shooting percentage (efficiency is supposed to go down as attempts go up) than Kyrie last year with worse teammates. This is with IT getting dble teamed and Kyrie being free to roam and take advantage of LBJ's distribution and double teams.

The Celtics were tied with the Warriors for the best offensive rating in the NBA (113.6) when Thomas was in, and they were dead last (99.0) when he was out.

Lol "much better player"

The age difference is definitely an important factor and I have heard about the rumors that LeBron wants to leave after this year. That said IT's stats were a bit better than Irving's, both players are not good at defense (though "you can't teach height"), and regarding LeBron's future, he said he tries not to think about it until the time comes, so nothing is set in stone. I don't think Boston "definitely" won the trade, because the other players the Cavs received are a great addition to their defense and athleticism and IT's spirit is invaluable. IT will make the team better and perhaps give provide leadership and direction when James is resting. In regards to leadership age can actually be beneficial in the short term.
