LA and San Diego bars

So what was originally just a short graduation celebration in San Fran has turned into a huge month long road trip from FL to CA. We will be spending several nights in LA (in the Santa Monica area) and San Diego (downtown off Market St) and I was wondering if anyone knew the good college age, possibly hipsterish, bars to go to in those areas.

Also, if anyone has any knowledge on the bars in Houston, Vegas, and New Orleans that'd help too. Thanks.

When in LA, definitely check out the 901 Bar and Grill at USC. It's essentially USC's only bar therefore making it the Microsoft of South Central night spots (it has a monopoly on all the USC bunnies). If you're up for Hollywood, check out Supper Club. If you're in Malibu, go to Gladstone's. If you're down in San Diego, go to Typhoon (and just more generally the Pacific Beach area - you won't regret it).

The Claremont suburb of LA (east towards Palm Springs) has some nice college bars. Back Abbey is a beer lovers delight, and it has some great burgers. A+ joint.

I'm from San Diego.

It all really depends what you're looking for. If you want some hipster stuff: Craft & Commerce. Dive Bars: Aero Club, Waterfront, El Dorado. College Bros and Bras: Millers (PB), PB Bar and Grill, or Johnny V's Dancing: on Friday Nights-- PB Bar and Grill or El Camino There's a sports bar in Point Loma by the military base, it was going off when the 49ers were playing the Packers. But that's the only time I've been there, the food was great. I forget what it's called.

Food-- Nico's in Point Loma (Mexican) Phil's BBQ (Point Loma) Lucha Libre (Misison Hills) Sushi-- It's on Garnet.. It's bomb, the socky bombs destroy me. BREAKFAST- YOU HAVE TO GO HERE- Snooze. 3940 Fifth Avenue, San Diego CA 92103

Damn, I miss San Diego.

Yea....I'd avoid USC unless getting mugged and shot at is your thing. But seriously, don't venture there. Compton's not a great representation of LA nightlife. Stick to the Westside, meaning bars in Santa Monica, Westwood, and out to West Hollywood. Check out Perch in downtown (great rooftop bar w/ one of the best views). If you want more of a college feel you can venture into Westwood. If you're also into lounges check out Voyeur in W. Hollywood.

Just graduated from school in San Diego.

In addition to things mentioned here: "Hottest" college age clubs in downtown San Diego: Hard Rock, Stingaree, Fluxx. Pacific Beach: Tavern, PB Bar and Grill on Thursdays if you are into Asians. JV's Mexican food near USD/Sea World. North Park has many hipster joints and a lot of great food. Check out Pomegranate Restaurant for amazing Eastern European food and experience. You MUST also go to Black's beach across from UCSD (not the nude part) and Coronado beach.
