Lateral Conversation Advice
Hey everyone,I'm a VP at a MM PE firm and am going to be lateraling to another PE firm in Jan 2023 once bonus hits. Not personal but know my manager is going to take it personally.Anyway, any advice on how to handle the convo would be much appreciated!
I think there's no way around them getting pissed. I think time will mellow things out but make it crystal clear it's all business and mention the comp etc. I may or may not be in a similar boat next year subject to comp revision so interested in what others say. What's the new comp (broad range) that's making you jump ship?
Thanks, I think you're right and there's no silver bullet or way to make it better.
Aren't you in BD? $500K for VP in BD - amazing. Totally understand your POV. No value add on my end, but just want to wish you the best. Clearly you're crushing it!
I think you are thinking about it the right way. You can't control how the other side reacts...just need to go in with your script carefully planned out and stick to it. Don't share more information than you need to. And stay out of any live negotiations. Just deliver your feedback as to why you're leaving (which are all good points) and leave it at that.
