Loud Neighbor, Can’t Sleep

My fiancé and I live in a nice apartment building but the sound insulation isn’t great in the bedroom wall, which abuts our neighbor’s unit. This neighbor plays video games loudly and yells into his microphone late into the night. My fiancé and I both work hard, carry a decent amount of stress, and need to sleep, but his loud gaming keeps us from falling asleep.

Any advice as to how to handle the situation? Could try to address it directly with the neighbor, but we are a little worried we could risk pissing him off and he could make our lives hell in return. Have never met him, so don’t know his personality or how he might react.

Not sure there’s anything property management can do, any ideas?

Earplugs, eye mask, possibly a sound machine. And proper blackout curtains if you have a window.

If you have a doorman I’d call them and say there is a resident screaming and that will normally help. Or contact management if you don’t have a doorman. I’m not sure approaching the person is the best option, as it can backfire/make things worse. Or just bang on the wall/shout “shut up” lol, that one has worked for me.

One spring in my apartment I had an insane lady live above me. Luckily my building is pretty soundproof, but I sleep light so I would wake up at 3-6am on random days during the week hearing this woman screaming/crying and throwing things (from what I could make out it was to do with a toxic relationship and she was screaming at a boyfriend). This was during banking and sucked getting my sleep disturbed, and it would last for hours. I called my doorman every time it happened so there was a record of it (so did other residents because a few times the cops got called), and then eventually started emailing management about how it was disturbing my life. They evicted her because of how bad it was.

On a funny side note - during the spring, before the central air got turned on and people would sleep with their windows open, she started screaming one night and some guy shouted “SHUT THE FUCK UP” out the window. She did shut up that night lmao.
