Major economic and social problems confronting the US
I was keep tracking the economy and social problems for quite a while and here are some of the lists. (Notes: The order is not based on its importance or anything. Also, these are not mutually exclusive.) I have always tried to look things in a big picture without losing sight of what really drives the economy and social problems. Anybody wants add something on this list?
- Resolving the financial crisis- revitalizing the banks and recovering the credit market
- Prevailing unemployment problem- the new Europe?
- Combating government debt, both Federal and state level- How? Increasing tax collections? Cutting budgets?
- Shrinking middle-income class
- Widening inequalities among different states and regions
- Weakening military dominance
- Strengthening manufacturing base- accounts for only 9% of the total GDP
- Weak dollar and potential risks of high inflation
- Financial system reform- is the White House willing to? If so, how?
- Reforming health care system and problems stemming from ageing population, especially pension systems.
- Weak public education system
- Remaining as the most prominent status in terms of research and technology development
- Maintaining current diplomatic status
- Reinforcing Corporate America
- Having the lead in new industries- biotechnology, green industry, etc.
- Securing commodities and resources in a stable manner
- Confronting the rise of China
- Rise in immigrants and assimilation issues
I would add,
you sound a like typical WASP who still think the world is run by one country. Confronting rise of China by doing what? start WW3?
Second that, what's wrong with having more immigrants. My family emigrated and they don't have any assimilation problems. Its just some bs excuse by some dumbass redneck to find a reason to not have more minorities in America.
