My friend made fools of us in front of partners at a conference
Hello, short story but funny one
My friends and I (two students trying to break into IB) were attending a Private Equity conference at the headquarters of a well-known asset manager.
There were about 25 people in the room, and my friend and I were sitting in the front row. The speakers were partners from Tier 1 EBs, so it was the perfect time to make a good impression.
But then, something unexpected happened.
Earlier that day, my friend had bought an Apple Watch and hadn’t finished setting it up, leaving Mickey Mouse as the watch face with an alarm still activated.
During a brief silence, the watch suddenly blurted out, 'IT'S 7:10 PM', directly at the speakers.
A chilling silence followed, as the partners turned to us, astonished after being interrupted by Mickey’s voice announcing the time.
Meanwhile, I was desperately trying not to burst out laughing, hoping I wouldn’t ruin my career before it even began.
In the end, we didn’t dare talk to anyone and just stayed near the buffet, eating appetizers… that weren’t even good.
