Native - hiring for a new start up
Going to chronicle my journey here to the oasis. I had another idea 3 weeks ago, but this one was different than the one's I've become accustomed to. Usually I can find the Achilles heel pretty fast once I start digging, or some other barrier to entry that complicates things.
The first 2 weeks was a frenzy of finding everything that could break the thesis, I've gone through this a million times so I knew I could do it again. I really tried to find a way to kill the idea. I failed. By the third week I had built the early models, the early version of what will eventually be distilled down into a pitch deck. I've since then started rolling out in-person pitches to those in my closest circle, with the hope that they could see something I couldn't. Smart guys but even they could see the problem I was solving clear as day. Starting my first round of screening for the right software engineer for this, interviewing someone younger than me from Stanford this Saturday. Blasting out connections to people I think might be a good fit for the tech dev. It'll be easy to win over anyone with the idea. I've made everyone sign NDA's and Non-Competes thus far. There’s two outcomes I’m protecting against with the NDA, either:
A, you love the idea so much, that in an alcohol-induced frenzy of premature celebration, you tweet storm the entire idea to the internet.
Or
B, you hate the idea so much, that, in an act of revenge, you tweet storm the idea
The guys thought it was funny when I put it that way. I'm excited. Will write here again soon.
make sure your NDA and non compete have been reviewed by a lawyer... can be a quick consult with an employment lawyer and not something really expensive, but if your idea requires discretion you need a tight contract.
non competes are quite often not enforceable, especially for a junior and certainly not enforceable if you're just interviewing them for the position.
Dude what?
If you're serious about entrepreneurship then you need to sharpen your skills on presenting your idea. The above is disjointed and doesn't take the time to set up the audience. Work on that.
Hard agree. The OP's post is disjointed. So stay positive is all I have to say.
+1
I'm sorry, didn't realize I was being graded. I'll be sure to use MLA format and cite my sources, next time.
Your writing style reminds of Chop Suey.
Assuming OP is like me, my writing is way shittier here than on any work product. I would say it’s hard to draw that conclusion from a WSO post.
Having people sign NDAs is really dumb.
I have never had anyone sign an NDA for our pitches.
Most respected equity investors in early stage VC will not sign an NDA.
I never said I made a VC sign an NDA
